What do health-care workers do? There are many kinds of health-care workers including
- dentists
- dietitians and nutritionists
- doctors
- nurses
- optometrists
- pharmacists
- physiotherapists
- technicians – laboratory, radiation, ultrasound, for example
These people work in a variety of settings across the province including
- long-term care facilities
- hospitals
- private clinics
What training do you need to get started? Depending on the job you want, you need
- high-school diploma AND
- college diploma or certificate, OR
- university degree OR
- post-graduate degree
Health care is a huge industry in Nova Scotia and it is getting bigger every day as our population ages and demand for health care increases. There are already about 46,000 people working in health care in Nova Scotia today. Many of them will retire soon. Over the next five years, Nova Scotia will need about 7,000 new health-care workers.
