  • build, fix, and maintain our homes, cars, and highways
  • build and maintain heavy-duty machinery like oil rigs
  • keep our buildings cool in summer and warm in winter
  • prepare food in grocery stores and restaurants

  • carpenters, bricklayers, electricians, and plumbers
  • cooks and chefs
  • mechanics – automotive, heavy equipment, and refrigeration and air conditioning

What training do you need to get started?
Depending on the job you want, you need

  • high-school diploma OR
  • college diploma or certificate, OR
  • apprenticeship training

From 2001 to 2006, employment in the skilled trades grew by 7.2% in Nova Scotia, and unemployment is the lowest it’s been in 20 years. Many working in skilled trades today are getting close to retirement. That means there will be a lot of jobs opening up all across the province.
